Nationals during Canada’s winter months are less than desirable, 2024 Nationals will be held (as a TRIAL time frame) in September in PEI. Selection for international teams will be based on similar criteria that were used during the 2020-2022 Covid period.

  • Athletes can apply for these teams using their best total from a corresponding discipline (ie. classic totals for classic events, equipped totals for equipped events) from any 2023 or 2024 IPF competition, or 2023 CPU Nationals, or 2023 or 2024 CPU Regionals

* Special interim amendment to Policy Section 19 – International Team Selection*

Athletes may qualify for IPF Bench Worlds and IPF Classic Open Worlds 2024 by

participating in 2024 Easterns under the following provisions:

-Applications must be submitted before the 90-day deadline – Bench Worlds

FEBRUARY 24th, 2024, and Classic Open Worlds MARCH 18th, 2024.

-Applications received after either of these dates respectively will NOT be

  • Bench Worlds applicants must be prepared to accept their team spot no later than 6 hours after the bench session they applied for at Easterns.

  • Bench-only results from 3 lift competitions will not be considered for bench-only teams. Athletes must have done a bench-only competition.

  • The athlete must apply for a spot on the team in the weight class they competed in. Once the team is named, athletes can move weight classes based on CPU policies.

  • Athletes must have achieved their CPU National Qualifying Total with the results they’re using to apply for the team.

  • If two athletes apply for the same weight class and have the exact total, the athlete who did it first will be ranked higher, except when the athlete's totals were done at the same competition. Then, the athlete who placed higher at that competition will be ranked higher.

  • The totals of all eligible applicants will be sorted based on weight and age classes, and 1st place in each weight class will automatically earn the spot on the National team. Any remaining team spots and reserves will be filled based on the CPU policies (all second-place finishers will be pooled and ranked according to IPF points and named to the team, followed by all third-place finishers being ranked by IPF points and named to the team, and carrying on until the team has been filled).

What about Masters lifters? The Masters' World Championship is in October in 2024, after Nationals. Can results from 2024 Nationals be used to apply for the International team for Worlds?

Replying to

Team would already be chosen by the time 2024 Nationals happen as that generally happens 90 days before any given international event.
